Ohio 2026000259I was a music teacher for 5 years but left to pursue other opportunities. After two decades outside of teaching, I still felt the call to help educate folks on home ownership and "giving back." When my wife and I were buying our home, I was stressed about one thing: everybody's opinion. My parents had ideas. Her family had ideas. And all I wanted was to make everyone happy. Then we found the house. It was the right fit for us, but it was closer to her parents than to mine. And I felt it. I kept thinking, "what if my parents feel like we chose her side?" But here's what I figured out. The best thing we could do was make the decision that was right for the two of us, and then explain it with respect. And honestly? They were just happy we found a place we loved, and it was still close to them. I'd spent weeks worrying about a conversation that took five minutes. Now I help couples work through the same thing. Buying your first home is a big decision, and you can make it with confidence and still keep both families close. Every couple who is close to their families worries about what their parents think. I've been in this exact situation, and now that I'm older and wiser, I can help other couples through it.
